From 1 April 2018, MEES has introduced a minimum energy efficiency rating of an ‘E’ for new residential lettings. Furthermore, from the 1 April 2020 MEES imposes the same minimum rating of an ‘E’ to all existing lettings. This creates a problem for property owners with traditional cottages or large inefficient farmhouses where an ‘E’ rating cannot easily be achieved, even with the current availability of grant funding for some improvement measures.
